Counselling Experience

From August 1996 to March 2001 I worked for the Spinal Injuries Association as a telephone counsellor, and in face to face counselling of
patients and relatives at the Spinal Injuries Unit, Stanmore Hospital.

From July 1999 to November 2003 I counselled at Wimbledon Guild and saw clients with a wide variety of issues, which broadened my experience beyond dealing with the trauma of sudden injury. Over the same period I saw private clients, and clients referred to me by a local church.

Since March 2004, after I moved to Yorkshire, I have:

       a)    counselled for over two years at Hull University as a sessional counsellor

       b) seen clients referred by
                 i.     KAIROS Counselling Service
                 ii.     BUPA
                 iii.    Counselling in Companies

       c)    developed my private practice

I am
both a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and a UKRC Independent Registered Counsellor.

A bit more ...

I was born in London, and after leaving school I decided to train as a priest. After a year I knew this was not for me, and on leaving the seminary I joined the army. While serving in the Middle East I was involved in a road traffic accident and fractured my spine. Since then I have been a wheelchair user.

I took exams in accountancy while being rehabilated, and worked as an assistant accountant for several years in the private sector, and then joined the Civil Service.

Eventually, I took voluntary redundancy and trained as a counsellor. The training was one of the hardest things I have ever done, as I had to explore every aspect of my life and personality, but I have found it infinitely worthwhile. It is a privilege to be involved with other people on part of their life journey. I decided that 'Stepping Stones'  was a good name for my counselling practice as I travel with my clients as we move from one stage of life to another.

In 2003 my wife and I moved to Yorkshire, and are really enjoying rural life.
